Dennis Derewsky
Retired Chevron fire captain, training officer, dead at 61

Dennis Derewsky, a retired fire captain and training officer with the Chevron refinery fire brigade in Richmond, CA, died May 27, 2014. He was 61.

A memorial service was held at St. Peter’s Anglican Orthodox Church in Statesville, NC.

Born Dennis Michael Derewsky on Oct. 24, 1952 in Perth Amboy, NJ, Derewsky was the son of Stanley and Helen Derewsky. He had been a volunteer firefighter for Avenel Fire Co. #1 in New Jersey for many years and was installed as Avenel fire chief in 1984. 

Moving to California in 1985 Derewsky was employed as a firefighter and fire trainer at Chevron Oil Refinery of Richmond, CA. He also was volunteer firefighter with the Suisun Volunteer Fire Company in Fairfield, CA. Upon retirement from Chevron in 2006, Dennis and his family moved to NC where he was employed as a fire consultant for TSI of Pennsylvania.

He is survived by Linda Marie Derewsky (Santa Maria), his wife of 37 years, and two daughters, Jennifer and Samantha Derewsky; brother Stanley Derewsky and two nephews, Brett and Scott Derewsky, of New Jersey.
