1923 Atlantic refinery fire remembered
Vol. 26 Summer
A bolt of lightning crashed into the top of an oil storage tank at the Atlantic Refining Co. along Butler Street in Lawrenceville. It was a little before 2 p.m., Friday, June 15, 1923. The bolt ripped through the top of the steel tank spewing thousands of gallons of Pennsylvania crude to the ground while bursting into flames.
