Marion (Cotton) Harrell Jr.

Marion (Cotton) Harrell Jr., a long time guest instructor for the Texas Engineering Extension Service's annual Industrial Fire School, passed away at his home in Leonard, TX, on Sept. 24, 2007. A memorial service was held on Sept. 29 at the United Methodist Church in Coppell, TX. In lieu of flowers, the family asked that memorials be sent to the Scottish Rite Hospital in Dallas.

Harrell was born on Sept. 18, 1926, in Shreveport, LA, to Marion and Carrie Harrell. He married Wilda (Billye) Harrell on Aug. 29, 1947. His wife of 60 years preceded him in death earlier this year. He was a graduate of Southern Methodist University and a proud member of the U.S. Marine Corps where he served in China during World War II. He retired from Scott Aviation after 35 years and served on the board of the Texas A&M Fire Training School for 50 years.

Harrell loved his work, his friends both old and new, the lake and his dog Sunny. But mostly his family, daughter Kara Dietz, son-in-law Bruce Dietz, grandson Barret Dietz, granddaughter Khyle Morgan and husband Christopher Morgan, aunt Marie Scallon, uncle George Scallon and many nieces and nephews.

Harrell and Billye lived in Dallas and Coppell. Recently Harrell moved to Leonard, TX, to be with his family. He never met a stranger even during his illness.
